Jeanna Catlin is a 39 year old stay at home mom who, like
many of us, struggled to lose the weight after her two pregnancies. A desk job and a semi-healthy diet also
contributed to the extra pounds. But two
years ago, Jeanna aspired to change her lifestyle and has gone from a size 16
to a 6. However, it’s not the weight and
inches lost that are most important to her; it’s what she has gained that has
led her to inspire others to achieve the same success she has.
Q: What motivated you to start a fitness program?
J: I was not working out prior to becoming pregnant and I gained more weight than I wanted with both my pregnancies. All the while, I was eating a diet that was healthy maybe 60% of the time.
Q: You’re a busy stay at home mom with two little kids, how do you stay committed?
J: I stay committed because you don’t get results if you don’t stick with it. I read a quote once that said “You don’t always get what you wish for, you get what you work for” and I am living proof of that. I have tried so many fad diets, and exercise programs that I never followed through with. I do my workouts when I can, and with two kids, it can be tough. I try to do it early in the day when I have more drive and energy, but I can’t always do it the same time every day. It takes a great deal of hard work and perseverance. You have to have the mindset that you really want it. There is no diet that will do what healthy eating and exercise can do. Plain and simple….eat right, work out, and get enough sleep. You will be amazed at what happens to your body!
Q: How much does nutrition play a role in your journey to a healthy lifestyle?
J: Nutrition plays a huge part in my journey!! If you don’t eat well, you can work your butt off and you just won’t see the results your want. That’s what happened to me when I started my fitness programs. Both times I lost a couple pounds and inches, but I just didn’t get the results I really wanted to see. In February 2013, I made a huge decision to eat clean, real, whole foods. As a family, we threw out all processed foods, and cut flour, white sugar, soda, candy, and low fat/diet/sugar free foods out of our diet. We buy organic as often as we can, and we try not to eat foods with a bunch of additives in them. We eat less red meat, and more chicken and fish. It’s done wonders for us all. I lost 11 pounds in the first 3 weeks that I changed my diet!
Q: Aside from the weight and inches lost, how has this journey changed your life from an emotional or mental standpoint?
J: This journey has been amazing so far, and I’m not done yet! My husband comments on how happy and confident I seem. My kids are proud of their Mama and I am so glad I can be a role model and show my kids how to be healthy and strong. My kids want to join in with me during my workouts and I love it!
